Objective of the present research fellowship is to investigate techniques for automatic identification of tumoral areas in digital slides, and the identification of rare events of interest for that areas. The expected results might involve the analysis, design and development of: i) methods for explicitly or implicitly collecting manual selections from expert pathologists; ii) learning methods and tools for automated identification of tumoral areas, from manually identified selections; iii) descriptors of texture for regions of interest; and iv) annotation of regions of interest with qualitative labels. Results should be presented at AIDPATH meetings and also at relevant conferences, or published on scientific journals.
